TIFFIN, Ohio - February 23, 2020 – The Hiram Terriers Cheer & STUNT team swept their two games at the Tiffin STUNT Tournament on Sunday, defeating Olivet College, 11-0, and Tiffin University, 12-0 at The Gillmor Student Center.
"It was exciting coming back to Hiram with two wins on the road, but it was even better to have played games with well-executed and energetic routines," Head Coach Samantha Campbell said. "We had several great moments that propelled our momentum. For example, after our opponent forfeited, we received a point for partner stunts 3 and 4. That means we performed with few execution errors, which is always the goal but is hard to achieve in the higher-level routines. We were truly better together on Sunday."
Hiram took an early, 4-0 lead against Olivet, winning all four points in the partner stunts first quarter. The Terriers led 6-0 after the first three quarters, and scored all three points in the first part of the fourth quarter, pulling away with an 11-0 victory.
Against the Dragons, Hiram got off to another good start, scoring three points in the first quarter. The Terriers added three more in the third quarter: jumps & tumbles, to take a 6-0 lead heading into the fourth.
Hiram then notched six points in the fourth quarter, including a sweep of round two, to seal the 12-0 victory over Tiffin.
"I am really proud of some individual accomplishments as well," Campbell said. "Dawn Condeza, our senior, through her standing tuck in competition for the first time after just mastering the skill on Thursday. Sophomore Zoe Mongold consistently through her round-off back-tuck in jump and tumble 3. Our pyramid and toss 2 added a full-up this week, which took away one modification going into the routine. That stunt group includes Isabelle Otero, Brianna Burns, Taryn Hughes, and Destinee Reeder, who executed that skill nicely every time."
The Terriers are back in action on Sunday, March 22 when they take on Grand Valley State and Maryville University at the Olivet STUNT Games at the Cutler Events Center in Olivet, Mich.
