Bates etched her name in the record books thanks to a 2.78m/9'1 ½" mark in the pole vault. She also competed in the 60-meter hurdles (10.13) and 500-meter dash (1:35.64) to boost her team to some early momentum in the first meet of the season in Alliance, Ohio.
