Feb.27-ADA, Ohio- Despite senior Katelyn Slomovitz picking up a hat trick with a three-goal performance, the Hiram College women's lacrosse team fell 18-3 to Ohio Northern University, Wednesday night.
The Terriers fell to 0-2 overall, while Ohio Northern improved to 1-0 in their season opener.
The Polar Bears struck quickly, scoring the first four goals of the game and led 4-0 10 minutes into the contest. The scoring attack was led by three goals from Ohio Northern's Betsy Naugle.
From there ONU would knock in another goal (5-0) before Slomovitz tallied the first Terrier goal of the game (5-1).
The Polar Bears responded with five goals in the remaining minutes to pull ahead 10-1.
Before the halftime break, Slomovitz tallied one last goal to set the score at 10-2.
After the first 30 minutes, the Terriers totaled four shots, six saves, and eight ground balls.
The host opened up the second half with a goal off a free position shot to stretch their lead to 11-2.
Ohio Northern would tally one more time (12-2) before Slomovitz pulled out a hat trick to cut the deficit to 12-3.
The Polar Bears finished off the game with a 6-0 run to end the game 18-3.
The Terriers will return home to take on Marietta on Saturday, March 2. The matchup is scheduled for a 12:00 p.m. start.
