March 29- BUFFALO, N.Y.- The Hiram College women's lacrosse team cut a first-half deficit to secure a 12-8 win over Hilbert, Thursday night.
The Terriers move to 5-3 on the season, while the Hawks drop to 0-5.
Hilbert opened up the scoring in the first half, to take an early 2-0 lead.
Junior Katelyn Slomovitz responded with back-to-back goals to tie up the game (2-2).
After a Hawk goal, freshman Gianna Palmieri hit the back of the net off a free position shot to tie the game up once again (3-3).
Hilbert scored two more times heading into the half, leading 5-3.
Senior Sierah Ray opened up the second half with a goal to put the Hawks in reach by one.
With the Terriers on their trail, Hilbert tacked on back-to-back goals to maintain the 7-4 lead.
Off a free position shot, Slomovitz sank her third goal of the night.
Only leading by two Hilbert scored their last goal of the game with 22:04 left in the game.
Hiram dominated the remaining minutes, with four different Terriers scoring the last seven goals of the night.
Sophomore Tayler Hall kicked off the scoring in the frame with her lone goal of the night.
Freshman Ketzia Umana connected with the back of the net off a free position shot to tally her second career goal.
Ray made her stamp on the game scoring four of the seven Terrier goals in the stanza.
Fellow senior Alyse Gillentine left her mark on the game tallying the last Hiram goal of the night, securing the 12-8 win.
Defensively, goalie Rachel Metcalf totaled eight saves, while Gillentine led the way with four caused turnovers.
Hiram also, went 22-22 in clears and outshot the Hawks 30-27.
The Terriers will return to the field on Saturday, March 31 as they get back into NCAC play against DePauw. The matchup with the Tigers is scheduled for 12 p.m.
