Feb.21-HIRAM, Ohio- Leaning on a group of returning players infused with seven fresh faces, the Hiram women's lacrosse team will look to keep developing during their 2018 campaign.
Offensively, Ray returns to the field as the Terriers' top weapon in 2018. Looking to replace the production of career record holder Autmn Osgood, the senior will try to step up her game for the third-consecutive year.
Last season, Ray tallied career highs in goals (49) assists (six) and total points (52) while ranking second in the NCAC in draw controls (109). Ray needs just 10 goals on the year to become the program's second-ever 100-goal scorer.
In 2017, Gillentine ranked third on the team in total points (23) scoring 18 goals while adding five assists. Slomovitz also tallied 18 goals on the season, while Hirsch finished her freshman campaign with 13 goals and 15 total points.
The Terrier defensive effort will be anchored by Metcalf, who is entering her fourth season as the Hiram College goalie.
Last season, Metcalf had one of her most productive years, tying her career-best with five victories. She also led the North Coast Athletic Conference in saves, with a career-high 154. As a junior, Metcalf posted double-digit save performances, 14 times; recording a season-best 14 in two separate games.
Sophomore Tayler Hall returns to the defensive unit after making 15 starts on the back line during her freshman campaign. She ranked third on the team in caused turnovers, posting 12 on the year. Sophomore Tia Smith will also return to the field.
Hiram will also add seven new additions to the team including midfielder pair Alex Nardo and Gianna Palmieri, goalie Gillian McMaster, and five defenders; Sarah Jamison, Kelsey Morgan, Katy Breland, Ketzia Umana, and Stephanie Cipa.
The Terriers will kick off their 2018 campaign with their first of eight home games against Ohio Northern on Thursday, February 22 at 7:00 p.m.
Hiram will then compete in seven more non-conference tilts, before opening their conference season at Kenyon College on March 24.
