HIRAM, OHIO -- The Hiram College women's lacrosse team was defeated by The College of Wooster, 18-5, in a North Coast Athletic Conference game at Charles A. Henry Field.
Wooster (8-1, 2-0 NCAC) scored its first goal at the 28:17 minute mark of the first half and went on to add five more goals to lead 6-0 before Hiram (3-6, 0-2 NCAC) knotched its first goal with 13:39 left in the period when freshman JoLyn Grover (Grand Blanc, Mich./Grand Blanc) found the back of the net to make the score 6-1. The Fighting Scots tallied the next three scores to extend the margin to 9-1 with 10:22 left before halftime. Grover then recorded her second goal of the game at the 8:22 mark on a free-position shot in a man-up advantage to narrow the gap to 9-2. Wooster posted the final two scores of the period to make it an 11-2 margin at the intermission.
In the second half, Grover found the back of the net for the third time just 30 seconds into the period on another man-up advantage making the score 11-3. The Scots answered with two straight goals to increase the margin to 13-3 before Hiram freshman Allison Spitz (Hudson) scored her first goal of the game with 20:31 left to go on a free-position shot. Wooster then posted five unanswered goals to take a commanding 18-4 lead. Spitz tallied the Terriers' final goal with a marker at the 1:05 mark, but Wooster would score two more times before the end of the half en route to the 18-5 final.
Hiram was led in scoring by Grover with three goals. Spitz was second with a pair of goals to round out the individual point scorers.
Freshman Rebecca Greenhouse (Pittsburgh, Pa./Winchester Thurston) played all 60 minutes making seven saves in 25 shots faced.
Hiram will host Kenyon College in a NCAC matchup on Thursday, Apr. 11 at Henry Field. The game is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m.
