BALTIMORE, MD. -- The Hiram College women's lacrosse team was defeated by Notre Dame of Maryland University, 13-1, in a non-conference game in Baltimore, Md.
Notre Dame (1-1) took control of the game early scoring five goals in the opening five minutes as part of an eight-goal scoring streak to lead 8-0 with 13:01 left to play in the first half. Hiram (1-2) scored what turned out to be its only goal of the game at the 8:41 minute mark when freshman Hannah Schaefer (Kent/Roosevelt) found the back of the net with an unassisted goal to make the score 8-1. Schaefer's goal was her fourth of the season. The Gators tallied two more scores before the end of the half to extend the lead to 10-1 at the intermission.
In the second half, Notre Dame recorded the only scores of the period finding the net three times to cruise to the 13-1 overall victory.
In net for Hiram, freshman Rebecca Greenhouse (Pittsburgh, Pa./Winchester Thurston) played the entire game making three saves in 16 shots faced. She is now 1-2 overall for the season following today's outcome.
Hiram is scheduled to host Houghton (N.Y.) College in a non-conference game on Saturday, Mar. 16 at Charles A. Henry Field. The game is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m.
