Women’s Basketball Upended by Wittenberg

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio – January 3, 2020- The Hiram College women's basketball team was unable to get into an offensive rhythm falling 68-48 to Wittenberg, Friday night.

The Terriers held the lead majority of the opening quarter closing the frame with a four-point advantage (17-13) off back-to-back three-pointers from Madison Branch.

The tides turned in the second quarter as the host held Hiram to single scoring digits, shooting 6-11 from the floor (31-26).

From there, Wittenberg maintained the opening half momentum, going on to outscore Hiram by double-digits in the second half (37-22).

In the third quarter, Alainna Conroy paced the Terriers with three of the six Hiram points, shooting 3-4 from the charity stripe.

The fourth would prove to be one of Hiram's strongest quarters, outscoring the Tigers (16-13).

Junior Duo Branch and Conroy each finished in double-digits with a combined 20 of the teams 48 points. Branch entered tonight's competition leading the conference in field goal percentage (53.5).

Sophomore Cici Bright led the reserves with eight points and seven rebounds.

The Terriers finished the night with 29 rebounds, forcing 19 turnovers, and seven steals.

Hiram will have a quick turnaround and hit the court on Saturday, Jan. 4, as they travel to DePauw. The matchup with the Tigers is scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
