Women’s Hoops Falls in Day One of the Fred Raizk Memorial Tournament

WILMINGTON, Ohio - November 22, 2019 - The Hiram College women's basketball team was unable to get into an offensive rhythm, falling 88-59 to Albion, Friday night.

Junior Madison Branch opened up scoring for the Terriers cutting the Britons lead to two (4-2). Albion held the Terriers to just 13 points in the first quarter.

Down 16-13 after the first, freshman Haley Thompson hit a three to even the score (16-16) with 8:55 in the second quarter.

The Britons would post a 10-0 run to stretch their lead to 26-16.

Inside the last five minutes, Hiram would hold Albion to two points while scoring 11, cutting the Britons lead to one off a three from Thompson (28-27).

At the halftime break, Albion held the eight-point advantage (35-27).

The third quarter was Hiram's highest-scoring quarter finishing with 19 points. The scoring was led by junior Alainna Conroy who tallied seven points in the frame (59-46).

The last quarter is where Albion's offense did most of their damage. In the fourth quarter, Hiram was outscored 29-13. The Terriers were able to shrink the deficit down to 12 points, but the Britons stretched the lead to as big as 31 points, securing their 88-59 victory.

Offensively, Thompson paced the Terriers with her first career double-double with 16 points and 10 boards. The freshman also finished the night with three steals, a block, and shooting 4-5 from beyond the arc.

Branch and Conroy each added 15 points apiece. Branch also contributed four steals, two assists, and two rebounds. Conroy tallied four rebounds, two steals, and two of the teams three blocks.

Hiram will take on day two of the Fred Raizk Memorial Tournament on Saturday, Nov.23 when they take on host Wilmington. The matchup with the Quakers is set for a 1:00 pm start.
