Conroy’s Career Night Secures 86-68 Victory Over Waynesburg

WAYNESBURG, Pa. - November 12, 2019 - Alainna Conroy posted her first career 35-point game to help the Hiram women's basketball team cement their 86-68 win against Waynesburg, Tuesday night.

Conroy also added three rebounds and two steals.

Hiram maintained the lead for 38 of the 40 minutes of play, forcing 25 turnovers with a season-high 19 steals. Junior Madison Branch led the group with five steals, while junior MicKayla Baldwin and freshman Haley Thompson each chipped in two.

The Terriers had a solid first-quarter performance holding the Yellow Jackets to just 10 points.

Hiram trailed just briefly in the opening quarter as the host hit the first basket of the game on their opening shot.

Following the initial bucket, Hiram cruised ahead to an eight-point lead with a 19-8 swing. Junior Alainna Conroy kicked off the scoring for Hiram knocking down her first three of the night.

Junior Tashauna Wright would lead the Terriers in the first quarter finishing with seven of her 17 first-half points.

Junior pair Madison Branch and Amanda Holzman added four and two points respectively, while freshman Alyssa Maraia sunk her first career three to cement the 19-10 first-quarter lead.

Hiram would maintain their scoring momentum in the second half, with a three-pointer from sophomore Cici Bright the Terriers stretched their advantage to 19 points (47-28) at the half.

The third quarter reflected the opening half with Hiram maintaining the lead, outshooting Waynesburg 23-18 (70-46).

The Terriers would see their largest lead in the final frame, outscoring the Yellow Jackets 12-7 to take a 29-point lead (82-53) with over five minutes left in the game.

Hiram held off the host in the remaining minutes cementing their 86-68 victory.

Eleven Terriers scored in the matchup with the Yellow Jackets. Wright helped lead the charge with 16 points, three rebound, and three assists. Bright finished with a season-high eight points and five boards.

The Terriers will hit the road on Friday, Nov. 15 when they head to Meadville, Pa. for the first day of the Allegheny Tipoff. The matchup with Grove City is set for a 1:00 pm start.
