Feb.6-HIRAM, Ohio- Despite a great first half showing the Hiram College women's basketball team fell 65-55 to the Ladies of Kenyon, Wednesday night.
Sophomore Amanda Holzman opened up the scoring for the Terriers knotting the game at 2-2.
From there a Tashauna Wright basket would help Hiram secure their first lead of the night (5-4). They wouldn't stop there with sophomore Alainna Conroy sinking a three to put the Terriers up 7-5.
The Ladies would tie the game at 7-7 before extending their lead to five (12-7). Kenyon would hold the largest advantage of the opening half with eight points (19-11) with less than a minute remaining in the first.
Most of the Hiram offensive action was played in the second quarter with the Terriers shooting over 50 percent from the field outscoring the Ladies 20-10.
Hiram held the Ladies scoreless for over four minutes using a 15-2 swing in the second frame to balloon their lead to seven (29-22). Wright led the offensive attack tallying six of the 15 points.
Keyon responded cutting their deficit down to two (32-30). Before a Holzman layup would send the Terriers into the halftime break up by four (34-30).
In the third quarter, the Ladies would come out of the locker room trimming the Hiram lead back to one (39-38). Kenyon's Ellie Schaub would knock down a three to help them retake the lead (42-38), eventually closing the quarter up by five (49-44).
The Ladies did major damage in the last quarter cementing their victory off a final 16-11 advantage (65-55).
Offensively, Wright paced the Terriers with 20 points and five rebounds, while Conroy posted 10 points and five rebounds.
Hiram will hit the road on Saturday, February 9 as they take on the Yeowomen of Oberlin College. Tipoff is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
