Nov.9- HIRAM, Ohio- The Hiram College women's basketball team enters the 2018-19 season looking to continue their upward climb of the North Coast Athletic Conference.
During head coach Alex Dellas' first season, the Terriers made a return trip to the NCAC Tournament, finishing the year with an 11-15 mark overall and a 7-9 record in conference.
Dellas welcomes back eight returners from last season's team. She also welcomes a handful of newcomers, which gives Hiram a mixture of new faces and experienced veterans.
As the Terriers build upon last season's success, they will lean on key returners like Second-Team All-NCAC selection, Erica Johnson. The senior guard was one of the top defensive players in the NCAC, topping the conference leaderboard in steals per game (2.4) and total rebounds (270). She also was one of just two players in the NCAC to average double-digit rebounds last year.
The frontcourt for the Terriers will also see the return of the sophomore group of Madison Branch, Alainna Conroy, Tashauna Wright, and MicKayla Baldwin.
Last season, Branch was a consistent force for Hiram, ranking second on the team in scoring with nine points per game in 20 starts.
Conroy returns to the floor for her second season after leading the team with an 82.4 free throw percentage, while also averaging over five points a game.
Wright was a fire off the bench making an appearance in 25 of the 26 games last season. The sophomore averaged 5.4 points per game, scoring a career-best 20 points against conference opponent Wooster on Dec. 6.
Baldwin will also return to the floor after missing the majority of the 2018-2019 season due to injury.
Hiram also has the addition of seven fresh faces this year. The roster will now feature junior Paris Thompson, sophomore Kathi Kline, as well as freshmen Brianna Woodworth, Gabriella Dukarm, Megan Davis, Cici Bright, and Josie Earnhardt.
Hiram will tipoff the 2018-19 campaign in a home matchup against Mt. St. Joseph on Saturday, November 10.
The Terriers will follow up with their home opener taking part in back-to-back tournaments, with the first being the JCU Tipoff Classic. The Terriers will take on host John Carroll on Nov. 16 and will play another game the following day against Capital. Hiram will also play in the Marietta Turkey Shootout on Nov. 24 and Nov. 25, taking on the host Pioneers on Nov. 24.
Other non-conference contests include home games against Adrian (Mich.) on Dec.15, Waynesburg (Pa.) on Dec.18, Westminster (Pa.) on Dec. 20 and a road game at Thiel (Pa.) on Nov. 28.
The NCAC season gets underway on Dec. 1 in a home game against Wooster. Hiram will play its first NCAC road contest on Dec. 5 against Denison. The Terriers will close out the season on Feb. 13 at 6 p.m. against Allegheny (Pa.).
