Sept. 1 – The Hiram College men's soccer team fell 2-1 in the matchup against Grove City on Saturday afternoon.
The Wolverines were the first to strike, knocking one to the back of the net in the first 13 minutes of play.
Trailing 1-0 in the second half, sophomore Giovanni Meza put the Terriers on the board off an assist from junior Austin Blatt. Meza cut the Grove City lead tying the game 1-1.
Fresh out of the halftime break, Hiram looked to capitalize on a chance to score with a header shot from freshman Tommy Rink that sailed just high of the net in the in the 48th minute of play.
The difference in the game came as Grove City responded in the 59th minute with a goal that would seal their 2-1 victory.
Over the remaining minutes, the Terriers sought out three more scoring chances. Rink posted another shot while junior Saint Roger Bountsebe and freshman Ali Al-Khatib tallied their first shots of the night that were saved by the Wolverine's defense.
Offensively Hiram tallied six shots, while junior CJ Keith stopped three shots in his 90 minutes of work.
The Terriers will get back to business on Friday, Sept. 7 as they travel to New York to take on Medaille. The matchup is slated for a 7:30 p.m. start.
