Jan. 6 – SPRINGFIELD, Ohio – The Terrier men's basketball team was unable to shake off a slow first half, falling to undefeated Wittenberg University, 81-61, on Saturday afternoon.
The Tigers came into the game 12-0 and ranked #17 in the Nation by D3hoops.com.
With Hiram leading 8-5 early in the first half, the game swung in the host's favor. The Tigers used a 22-point run while holding the Terriers without a basket for eight minutes of game time to run out to a 27-8 advantage.
From that point on Hiram would get no closer than 19 points. The Terriers trailed 53-29 at the break, and would get only as close as 56-37 in the second half, before falling by the 20-point margin.
Offensively, Hiram was led by senior Kelvin Jones, who totaled 17 points and six rebounds. Terrence Warren added 12 points and five assists, while freshman Jalen Kirksey totaled 10 points and a team-high seven boards.
The Terriers will get back to work on Wednesday, January 10 as they travel to Delaware, Ohio to take on #9 Ohio Wesleyan. The matchup with the Battling Bishops is scheduled for a 7:30 p.m. start.
