March 18-GROVE CITY, Pa.- The Hiram College baseball team defeated Grove City College 5-2, Monday afternoon.
After a quiet opening inning, Hiram was the first to get on the board. The Terriers posted the lone run of the second inning from sophomore Vince Suso to jump out to a 1-0 lead.
In the third and fourth inning sophomore pitcher, Jeff Spencer kept the Wolverines runless.
Hiram would add to their score in the fourth with freshman Kyle Workman making his way home to stretch the Hiram lead to 2-0.
In the sixth inning, Grove City posted their only runs of the game off back-to-back singles from Bobby Abbott and Jesse Clary to score Micah Burke and Matt Dayton.
With the bases loaded, sophomore Zachary Bailey singled to collect his first RBI of the game to score junior Curtis Caithaml.
PJ Suso had the last at-bat of the night singling to bring home freshman Devin Houdeshell and sophomore Parker Emerine for the last two runs of the game (5-2).
On the mound, Spencer and sophomore pair Tommy Dailey and Justin Humphry divided time. Spencer started off the action only allowing two runs in his six innings of work with five strikeouts.
Hiram will have a quick turnaround and take on Grove City tomorrow Tuesday, March 19 at 4:00 p.m. for their home opener.
