1/25/2025 7:25:00 PM

GENEVA, Ohio – January 25, 2025 – Hiram indoor track & field continued the early stages of its 2024-25 season with a good showing at the SPIRE Midwest Collegiate Open, with multiple members of both the men's and women's teams finding their way to the top of the leaderboard.

The event featured teams from the Division I, Division II and Division III levels, a big opportunity for the Terriers to get some exposure against some of the better competition in the region.

Men's Recap

The long jump carved out a chance for freshman Gavin Dunn and junior Tucker Marmash to shine, with the pair finishing fourth (21' 8¾", 6.62m) and fifth (21' 4¼", 6.51m) respectively in the field of 53 student-athletes. That duo is currently ranked first and third in the NCAC this season, too. Shortly thereafter, freshman Job Gibson tied for 17th in the high jump (5' 8¾", 1.75m).

In the racing events, Sebastian Regalado posted a 9.45-second clip in the 60-meter hurdles prelim and a time of 25.40 seconds in the 200-meter dash. Leading Hiram in that 200-meter dash event was freshman Kamran Walton (23.52), followed by Connor Green (24.77).

Highlighting the day was senior DeAco Curry, who placed 22nd in the field of 79 student-athletes with a mark of 2:01.53 in the 800-meter run. Curry will look to break the school record at some point in the season, a mark that is currently held by Greg Cicero (1:58.75 in 2000).

Dre Nelson recorded a 7.53-second mark in the 60-meter dash and Green returned to the track in the 500-meter dash (56.71) to wrap up the day.

Women's Recap

Lillyan O'Bryant made her collegiate debut in the weight throw, ranking 30th out of 51 student-athletes (34' 2¼", 10.42m). Sophomore Sam Volpe, who already holds the record in the indoor shot put, neared her program record with a 14th-place mark of 35' 8¾" (10.89m). Junior Karalyn Rutkowski finished off the best field results by tying for eighth place in the high jump (5' 1", 1.55m).

Moser later returned to the track in the individual events, running a 2:33.96 in the 800-meter run to rank near the top-half of a competitive field. Trezure Bates was also impressive, running a 27.89 in the 200-meter dash. Elaine Guyette finished the day with a time of 11:35.04 in the 3,000-meter run, which ranked 44th among 72 student-athletes.

The Terriers also featured a team of six athletes in the 4,000-meter distance medley relay, with Moser, Frances Popik, Alisah Ward, Kairi Etsitty, Gabrielle Minick and Sophie Bystrom teaming together for a time of 14:35.95.

What's Next

Both teams will return to competition next Saturday as part of the Wuske Invite on the campus of the University of Mount Union in Alliance, OH.
