ADA, Ohio - December 7, 2024 - Will Brodbeck highlighted a strong day at the ONU Invitational for the Hiram men's wrestling team, as the junior placed sixth in the 141-lb bracket in a competition that featured some of the best teams in the region. As a team, the Terriers placed 12th overall, with Ian Fuentes (125 lbs), Lewis DeLoach (133 lbs), Ashton Kauf (149 lbs), Kaelon Lawson-West (157 lbs) and Seth Holt (165 lbs) also earning victories.
Brodbeck showcased his ability to bounce back on Saturday, as he lost his first bout by fall to Ohio Northern's Jacob Reed (2:13) before winning three straight bouts to guarantee himself a finishing place: win by fall over Heidelberg's Sam Smith (2:06), win by major decision over Otterbein's Tamas Eder (9-1) and win by technical fall over Tiffin's Christopher Oleksiak (16-1). The Hudson, OH native lost his final two bouts of the day to Mount St. Joseph and Olivet, but still earned his team 12.5 points in what shaped out to be a successful day.
Five other student-athletes each earned a win on the day, too, with Fuentes getting in the win column for the first time in 2024-25. The junior beat Washington & Jefferson's Daniel Verscharen by fall (0:41) to score another three points for the Terriers.
DeLoach kept the momentum going with a win by decision over Muskingum's Joseph Slatzer (13-6). Shortly thereafter, Kauf earned a key win over W&J's Peyton Carter in the consolation round (fall, 1:05).
Lawson-West added to his team-leading total of wins with a victory by technical fall over Otterbein's Jason Patterson (20-4). Holt matched his senior teammate with a win by fall over Caylan LeMaster of Heidelberg (3:52) to wrap up a day that put the team's depth on full display.
Some of that same Muskingum competition will be headed to Hiram next Friday, Dec. 13 for a dual meet inside Price Gymnasium at 6:30 p.m.
