ALLIANCE, Ohio - November 2, 2024 - FULL RESULTS - The Hiram men's wrestling team opened its season at the Mount Union Invitational this weekend, a great opportunity to start the 2024-25 campaign on the right foot under first-year head coach Dustin Porter.
The Terriers accomplished just that inside Peterson Field House on Saturday morning.
Hiram finished ninth out of 10 teams at the event, earning 13 team points to place ahead of Muskingum. Gannon, West Liberty and Ohio Northern earned first through third place.
Will Brodbeck (141 lbs) earned his first win of the season in the consolation round of the 141-lb bracket, beating Ferrum's Tommy Cardenas by fall (4:11). The junior also lost by technical fall to Gannon (18-2) and by major decision to Mount Union (22-13).
Freshman Jackson Bowers (157 lbs) had a collegiate debut to remember, beating Mount Union's Spencer McCarty by major decision (11-3) to earn his team two points. Bowers started with a loss to Ferrum by fall (1:44) and finished with a loss to Gannon by technical fall (20-5), but the victory officially got him on the board for the year.
Seniors Seth Holt (165 lbs) and Kaelon Lawson-West (165 lbs) led the Terriers with a pair of victories each; Holt beat Gannon's Nicholas Reilly by fall (1:04) and Ohio Northern's Kyle Austin by fall (2:06), while Lawson-West beat West Liberty's Zachary Stevens by decision (6-5) and Mount Union's Evan Brickman by decision (8-7).
