Oct. 21 – ALLIANCE, Ohio – The Terrier swimming & diving teams competed in their first dual meet of the season, taking on the University of Mount Union on Saturday afternoon.
The Terrier men fell by a score of 168-89, while the women were upended 178-38.
On the men's side, Terrier freshman Elijah Skaggs had the top day of any Hiram swimmer, collecting a trio of top-three finishes and winning a pair of events.
The Terrier freshman captured individual victories in the sprinting events. He first bested five other swimmers in the 50 freestyle, posting a time of 23.16. He then followed that with a victory in the 100 free (50.79), before turning in a second-place finish in the 100 butterfly (56.18).
Skaggs then teamed with fellow freshmen Brady Gunther and Darien Street, as well as junior Reeve Bowling, to place third in the 200 medley relay. The quartet finished the race with a time of 1:46.00.
In addition to the relay, Gunther finished third in the 200 backstroke (2:11.93), while Bowling finished third in both the 100 breaststroke (1:09.57) and the 100 freestyle with a time of 52.53.
Jordan Canevari also posted a top-three finish, placing third in the 500 free with a time of 5:38.03.
On the women's side, sophomore Jenna Nelson started her dual-meet season off strong, totaling four top-three finishes on the day.
The sophomore captain placed third in the 1,000 freestyle (12:18.81). She also captured third in both the 100 and 200 breaststrokes, before finishing in third in the 200 individual medley (12:18.81).
The Terriers will get back to the pool on Friday November 3, as they open the home portion of their schedule against Malone. The action is slated for a 6 p.m. start.
