Oct. 26 – Oberlin, Ohio – The Hiram College women's soccer team surrendered two, first-half goals, eventually falling to Oberlin College, 3-0, on Wednesday evening.
The Yeowomen (6-8-1), cracked the scoreboard in the 28th minute as Taylor French notched her 10th goal of the season on an assist from Gwennie Gardiner. Just 38 seconds later, Gardiner found the back of the net herself, using a breakaway to beat goalkeeper Ally Green, giving the hosts a 2-0 lead.
In the first half, Oberlin took eight shots, compared to just four for Hiram, but both teams tallied two shots on goal in the frame.
The second half saw more back-and-forth, as Hiram added seven more shots to their totals, finishing the game with 11. However, Hiram was unable to scratch together a score of their end, while Oberlin added one more marker in the 49th minute by French. The multi-goal effort was the fourth of the season by the Yeowomen senior.
Defensively, Ally Green faced 17 shots in the game, totaling six saves while playing all 90 minutes.
Hiram will conclude its regular season on Saturday, October 28, when they play host to the Battling Bishops of Ohio Wesleyan University. The match, which will also serve as senior day for the Terriers, is scheduled for a 5:30 p.m. start.
