Oct. 18 – HIRAM, Ohio – Despite nearly doubling their opponents' shot output, the Hiram College women's soccer team dropped a 5-0 decision to Allegheny College on Tuesday evening in North Coast Athletic Conference action.
The Gators tallied a trio of goals in the opening half, getting scores from Jessie Thiessen, Adele Gilman and Hannah Eisemann. Thiessen's came in the 17th minute, while Gilman's was tallied in the 26th and Eisemann's, the 29th.
The Terriers were able to control the pace of play for the majority of the half, outshooting Allegheny by a total of 14-5. However, keeper Colleen Fleming was up to the challenge, making seven of her 11 saves in the frame.
The second half was more of the same with Allegheny getting goals from Sarah Donohue and Thiessen. Thiessen's second tally of the game in the 77th minute tied her for the league lead in total goals with nine.
Throughout the contest, the Terriers outshout Allegheny by a 21-11 margin, including the nine-shot difference in the first half. Both Abbey Rowe and Allie Glatt finished the game with six shots, with four coming on net. Jasmine Kemp added three shots, while Sophie Bell, Emily Syrjala and Alison Cowell all tallied one on goal.
Hiram will be back in action on Saturday, October 22, when they travel to Springfield, Ohio to take on the Tigers of Wittenberg University. The matchup is scheduled for a 5:30 p.m. start.
