HIRAM, Ohio -- The Hiram College women's soccer team fell to Grove City (Pa.) in a non-conference match on at home by a 2-1 count on Saturday evening.
The two teams waited out a two hour 15 minute rain delay before getting the contest underway around 8:15 p.m.
The Wolverines (3-1-0) opened up the scoring at the 24:57 mark of the first half as Krista Heckman converted an pass by Elena Guerra, to give Grove City the 1-0 lead.
The Terriers (1-2-1) almost knotted the score at 1-1 as junior Rebecca Fischer (Mansfield, Ohio/Mansfield Senior) rocketed a shot that clanked off the left post and back out into play.
Hiram would ultimately tie the score at the 31:21 mark of the first half as senior Allie Glatt (Cincinnati, Ohio/Seton) converted a penalty kick. Glatt now has a team-high three goals on the season.
The Wolverines were able to retake the lead six minutes later as Heckman scored her second goal of the evening.
The Terriers looked to mount a comeback in the second half, taking two shots to no avail.
Senior Abbey Rowe (Mt. Orab, Ohio/Lynchburg) also had two shots in the final five minutes, but both would sail wide.
Hiram ended the contest with a slim 16-14 advantage in shots, while the Wolverines held a 10-5 edge in corner kicks.
The Terriers will look to rebound on Thursday, September 15 as they travel to take on crosstown rival John Carroll at 7:30 p.m.
