Women's Lacrosse Beaten By Houghton (N.Y.) In Season Opener
HOUGHTON, N.Y. -- The Hiram College women's lacrosse team played its first game of the 2014 season, but the Terriers would be shut out by Houghton (N.Y.) College, 16-0, in a non-conference game in Houghton, N.Y.
Houghton (1-0) wasted no time scoring its first goal of the game, needing just 15 seconds to find the back of the net to take the early lead. The Highlanders scored again nine minutes later and went on to add eight more goals as Houghton outshot Hiram, 20-3, in the first 30 minutes. Hiram (0-1) would trail by a sizeable, 10-0, at the break.
In the second half, Houghton continued to add to its point total with six goals in the final period to cruise to a 16-0 final.
Hiram sophomore goalkeeper Rebecca Greenhouse (Pittsburgh, Pa./Winchester Thurston) played all 60 minutes and had 14 saves in 30 shots faced.
Hiram is scheduled to host Olivet (Mich.) College on Tuesday, Mar. 4 in a non-conference game at Charles A. Henry Field. The game is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m.
