Women's Lacrosse Beaten by DePauw (Ind.) in Conference Opener
GREENCASTLE, IND. -- The Hiram College women's lacrosse team came out on the losing end of a 27-1 decision against DePauw (Ind.) University in the North Coast Athletic Conference opener in Greencastle, Ind.
DePauw (4-0, 1-0 NCAC) scored its first goal of the game with 27:23 left in the first half and took control right from the start. The Tigers went on to post a total of 16 scores in the first 30 minutes to take a 16-0 advantage into the locker rooms.
In the second half, DePauw continued the strong offensive play with eight more goals before Hiram freshman JoLyn Grover (Grand Blanc, Mich./Grand Blanc) put the Terriers (3-5, 0-1 NCAC) on the board on a free-position shot with 11:43 left to play. The Tigers rounded out the scoring with three more goals to end the game en route to the 27-1 final.
Grover was the lone point scorer for Hiram with her unassisted goal. She took three shots in the game and also recorded two ground balls, three draw controls and caused one turnover.
In goal for Hiram, freshman Rebecca Greenhouse (Pittsburgh, Pa./Winchester Thurston) played all 60 minutes making seven saves in 34 shots faced.
Hiram will host The College of Wooster on Saturday, Apr. 6 in a NCAC matchup at Charles A. Henry Field. The game is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
