August 4 – HIRAM, Ohio – The Hiram College athletics department announced on Friday that Emily Hays, head women's basketball coach, has resigned from Hiram to accept a position as head coach at Dickinson College.
Hays departs Hiram after three seasons with the Terriers, increasing Hiram's win total in every season that she was at the helm. Taking over a five-win program, Hays improved the team to seven wins in her first season, following that with 12 in 2015-16.
Last season, Hays led the Terriers to new program records with 17 victories, nine conference wins, and the team's first home playoff game in school history. In just three seasons she managed 36 victories, the most of any Hiram coach in that span.
Getting the most out of her players, Hays helped the Terriers earn six All-NCAC selections in her three seasons, including the school's first First-Team All-NCAC selection, Mercedes Jones, in 2016-17.
"We want to thank Emily for her three years of service to Hiram College," remarked Director of Athletics Ellen Dempsey. "While we are disappointed to see her leave, we want to thank her for helping the women's basketball program reach new heights."
With the departure of Coach Hays, Hiram has begun a national search for the next head women's basketball coach.
