Softball Drops Two at Thiel
Mar.15- GREENVILLE, Pa.- The Hiram College softball team fell to Thiel in a non-conference doubleheader, Friday afternoon. 
 
In the first game of the doubleheader, the Tomcats were the first to get on the board tallying two runs in the opening inning (2-0). 
 
The second and third inning was quiet for both sides with neither team adding a run.   
 
The Terriers got on the board in the top of the fourth inning with freshman Megan Davis tripling to left center to bring home freshman Kaitlyn Saffel. In the next at-bat freshman, Giselle Chavez
doubled to right field to score Davis to tie the game (2-2).  
 
A home run from Thiel pulled the Tomcats ahead 4-2 in the bottom of the fifth inning.  
In the next inning, Hiram saw most of their scoring action tallying four of their six runs. In the frame, junior Nikki Budner collected her first RBI of the game doubling to score freshman Giselle Chavez. Next, Budner made her way home off an error, before freshman Isabelle Gonzales scored on a wild pitch. To round out the inning, sophomore Kaitlyn Hager singled to third base to score junior Isabelle Miranda.  
 
Thiel responded with two runs in the bottom of the sixth to knot the score at 6-6.  
 
Hiram would add one last one run from sophomore Giselle Bahena to put the Terriers ahead by one (7-6). 
 
The Tomcats closed out the game tacking on two more runs to take the first game 8-7.  
 
Sophomore Bailey Scheck finished her 6.2 innings of work with two strikeouts and allowing six runs on 13 hits. 
 
In game two, the Terriers were down by one before they posted two runs in the fourth inning from Davis and Chavez (2-1).  
 
Thiel came back with one run in the fourth to tie the score 2-2. 
 
In the fifth, Hager scored the lone Hiram run before the Tomcats went on to take the lead 6-3 with a five-run inning (7-3).   
 
The Terriers added one last run to close out the game falling 7-4. 
 
Hiram will be back in action on Wednesday, March 20, as they host Westminster. The non-conference matchup is scheduled for a 3:30 and 5:30 p.m. start.
