March 12- CLEVELAND, Ohio - After opening the 2017-2018 Softball season at the Tucson Invitational, freshman Kaitlyn Hager has been named the North Coast Athletic Conference Player of the Week.
Hager made her collegiate debut last week, helping the Terriers to four wins in Tucson, Ariz. The Terriers posted victories over Husson (9-8), Northland (6-2), Fontbonne (12-7), and Rockford (17-6) during their spring break trip.
In the win over Northland, Hager posted one of her best performances tallying her first career home run, and finished the night with three hits while scoring two runs. She also made her mark on the mound allowing just four hits and recorded four strikeouts.
The rookie made an appearance in all ten games, splitting time as both a pitcher and center fielder. In the circle, Hager made a pair of starts, posting a 3.94 ERA with eight strikeouts and a 1-1 record.
At the plate, Hager led the Terriers in nearly every major statistical category, going 18-of-30 (.600) at the plate while slugging .967. Katelyn tallied five doubles and a pair of home runs while driving in seven runs. She also posted five stolen bases, which led the team.
Throughout the week, Hager produced a hit in every game, racking up a multi-hit performance, seven times. Her top outing came in a 17-6 win over Rockford, where she went 2-for-3 with a home run, three runs score and a pair of RBIs.
From the mound, the freshman pitched all seven innings in the victory over Fontbonne. Hager picked up her first win in the circle only allowing seven hits and five strikeouts.
Hager and the rest of the Terriers will be back in action Saturday, March 17, when Hiram travels to Westminster (Pa.). The first game is slated for a 1:00 p.m. start.
