Hiram Men's Volleyball Preview

Hiram Men's Volleyball Preview

HIRAM, Ohio - Under the direction of first-year head coach Kyle Mars, the Terrier men's volleyball team is set to begin their inaugural season on Friday evening. Prior to their first game, we caught up with Coach Mars to preview the upcoming season and what we can expect from the young Hiram squad.

The preview is broken up into three parts, which can all be viewed, below, or found on the Hiram Athletics YouTube channel.

Part 1 - Coach Mars discusses what the year and a half build up has been like for him in his first head coaching stint. He also discusses the appointment of the Hiram captains for the 2018 season; freshmen Alex Andrzejewski and Jake Lininger.

Part 2 - Coach Mars breaks down the 17 man roster, which includes 13 freshmen and four upperclassmen. The team sees a good mix of native Ohioans as well as out-of-state players on the roster this season. Seven players came to Hiram from Ohio (Colton DeForest, Andrew Gard, Brennan Walentschak, Craig Capwell, Justin English and Henry Schwendler), with four hailing from Pennsylvania (Hunter Rock, Lininger, Cole Filer and Grant Phelan). Additionally, two players come to Hiram from both New York (Andrzejewski and Cory Fischer) and Virginia (Brandon Sims, Jared Louie), with one native of Florida (Martin Esquivel), and the other from Afghanistan (Rameen Aghbar).

Part 3 - Mars discusses the upcoming schedule, playing in the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC), while also discussing the goals for the team's first season. Hiram opens the year with four games at Misericordia College tomorrow (Jan. 19) and Saturday (Jan. 20). They will then host Penn State-Behrend, St. John Fisher and Wittenberg University on Friday and Saturday, Jan. 26 and 27.
