Feb.15-GRANVILLE, Ohio- The Hiram College men's and women's swimming & diving teams collected many career and season best on the second day of the NCAC Swimming & Diving Championships, Thursday afternoon.
After wrapping up day two, the Terriers currently have totaled 149 points on the women's side, and the men have tallied 92 points.
Overall, Denison holds the lead for the women with 695 points, Kenyon sits in second place with 660, DePauw and Wooster are tied for third with 355.5 points each.
The women's 200-yard freestyle relay collected some early points for Hiram, coming in ninth-place (2:03.45). The relay featured freshman Kerrie Romagna, sophomore Jill Schmidt, freshman Nicki Prentler, and sophomore Kimmy Morrison.
Sophomore Jenna Nelson tallied the highest placing individual time of the day for the Terriers, with a 24th place finish in the 500-yard freestyle in a season-best time of 5:29.32.
The 50-yard freestyle featured three season-best times, with captain Kimmy Morrison leading the way, shaving off over 40 seconds of her previous time (29.48). Freshmen duo Romagna and Prentler trailed behind clocking in at 29.64 and 31.37.
Junior Sierra Daniels represented the Terriers in the 200-individual medley relay coming in 27th place in 2:35.32.
The women wrapped up the night with a ninth-place finish in the 400-yard medley relay (4:43.00). The relay included freshman Mallory Best, Nelson, Daniels, and Morrison.
On the men's side of competition, Denison is in the lead with 651.5 points, the Lords of Kenyon sits in second with 622.5 points, and DePauw is in third with 412.5 points.
The 200-yard freestyle relay swam a season-best time of 1:35.85. The relay included freshman Brady Gunther, junior Michael Barber, senior Jory Gomes, and junior Reeve Bowling.
Barber led the Hiram duo in the 500-yard freestyle finishing in 5:20.64. Freshman Brett Bentkowski made his championship debut trailing behind his teammate in the 500 freestyle, clocking in at 6:04.87, over 16 seconds off his previous time
In the 50-yard freestyle, Bowling was the first Terrier to finish recording a 43rd place finish in 23.09.
Freshman Darien Street set a new career-high in the 200-individual medley, and now has the fastest time of any Terrier this season coming in at 2:12.81.
Hiram will hit the pool for day three of the NCAC Championships on Friday, February 15 at 12:30 pm. Day threes events include the 200-medley relay, 400 individual medley, 100 butterfly, 200 freestyle, 100 breaststroke, and the 100 backstroke.
