HIRAM, Ohio- The Terriers defeated the Denison Big Red by a score of 2-1 on Saturday night.
Hiram improves to a 3-4-2, 1-1-0 NCAC record, while Denison falls to a 3-5-2, 0-1-1 NCAC record on the season.
The Big Red scored first in the fifteenth minute when Will Rudolph scored off a pass from Austin Howard. With less than one minute to go before halftime, junior Keanu Shelton (Youngstown, Ohio / Cleveland State) scored his first goal of the season to tie the game at one. Senior Vaal Ngalla (Pickerington, Ohio / St. Charles Prep) was awarded with the assist.
Hiram took the lead in the 63rd minute when freshman Tyler Helderman (Tallmadge, Ohio / Tallmadge) connected with junior Richard Milford (Akron, Ohio/ University of Akron), who found the back of the net to give the Terriers a 2-1 lead and secure the win for Hiram.
The Terriers outshot the Big Red 9-5 during the match in addition to holding a 4-1 edge in corner kicks.
In goal, junior Luke Wilhelm (Shaker Heights, Ohio/ University School) played the entire match and finished with one save.
The Terriers will return to action on Tuesday, October 4 at 7:30 p.m. when they battle Penn State- Beaver in a nonconference matchup at home.
