WESTERVILLE, Ohio -- Freshman Tyler Helderman (Tallmadge, Ohio / Tallmadge) scored the only goal for the Terriers as they tied Otterbein 1-1 in a double overtime battle.
Hiram's record now stands at 2-3-2 and Otterbein's is now 4-2-1.
Helderman put the Terriers on the board first in the 26th minute when he scored off a breakaway from midfield.
About six minutes later, the Cardinals tied the game at one when Ross Pfeil found the back of the net. Tristan Kovach was awarded with the assist.
The score remained tied 1-1 going into halftime.
Despite Hiram taking seven shots and Otterbein taking nine in the second half, neither team was able to score and the game was forced into overtime.
The Terriers took the only shot in the first overtime period. The Cardinals made a last minute effort to win the match when they fired three shots in the second overtime period, but neither team scored and the match ended in a 1-1 tie.
In goal, junior Luke Wilhelm (Shaker Heights, Ohio/ University School) played the entire match and finished with ten saves.
The Terriers open conference play this Saturday when they hit the road to face Wooster at 3:30 p.m.
