CLEVELAND, OHIO -- Hiram College senior men's basketball player Alan Sheppard (Wadsworth) has been named this week's North Coast Athletic Conference Player of the Week.
Sheppard helped lead the Terriers to a 4-1 record during the holiday break with victories against Washington & Jefferson (Pa.), Westminster (Pa.), Case and Hendrix (Ark.). Hiram has won five out of its last six games and has moved above the .500 mark with a 6-5 overall record.
In five games, Sheppard averaged 21.0 points per game while shooting 45.7 percent (37-of-81) from the floor. He also shot 38.9 percent (14-of-36) from three-point range and was a perfect 17-of-17 from the free-throw line. He led the team in scoring in three out of the five games, including scoring a career-high 28 points in the win against Westminster at Price Gymnasium. Sheppard then ended the holiday slate of games with a 27-point effort in a 99-87 loss to Ramapo (N.J.) as part of the D3hoops.com Classic in Las Vegas, Nev. In addition for the week, Sheppard recorded 17 assists to go along with seven rebounds and three steals.
For the season, Sheppard leads the team in scoring averaging 16.1 ppg. while shooting 43.4 percent (59-of-136) from the field. He is also amongst the team leaders in three-point shooting (26-of-64) and free-throw shooting (33-of-37). He is second on the team in assists (32), third in steals (eight) and has one blocked shot.
Hiram returns to NCAC play this week with a pair of road games beginning with a matchup against Wabash (Ind.) College on Friday, Jan. 4 in Crawfordsville, Ind. The game is scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m. The Terriers will then make a stop in Greencastle, Ind. for a conference game against DePauw (Ind.) University on Saturday, Jan. 5. Tip-off against the Tigers is slated for 3 p.m.
